How to Apply
Each year Make School welcomes exceptional transfer students from institutions around the country who are looking to dive deep into the practical study of computer science. We appreciate the ways in which transfer students add to the fabric of diverse backgrounds at Make School with their unique perspectives.
Step 1: Submit the Online Application
Be sure to submit the online application by these deadlines. There is no fee to submit an application.
Note: Applicants who choose to apply using the Common Application will need to apply through Dominican University and select "Applied Computer Science" as a major. Once your application is submitted, it will be sent over to Make School for review. All subsequent communication, including requests for additional documents, will come directly from Make School.
Step 2: Submit Documents
After submitting your online application, you will wait for approval before moving onto this step. Once your online application has been reviewed and approved, log into your application portal to see exactly what documents are required and how to submit them.
You can submit the documents after the application deadlines, however, you will not receive an admissions decision until after we have received your items. We recommend ordering your documents the same day or week that you submit an application to avoid delays.
We require transcripts from all applicants but we accept official and unofficial transcripts for admissions. Send your high school transcript if you are currently completing high school, or you have finished high school but have less than 24 college-level transfer credits. Send your college or university transcript if you have taken any college classes (during or after high school), regardless of if you received credit or not.
If you’re submitting unofficial transcripts, you can upload them directly to your applicant portal or email them to our team at email@example.com. Just make sure your unofficial transcripts include:
- Your name
- The name of your school
- All complete grades listed and any in-progress classes listed.
- These items have to be PDF or scanned copy of your transcript, not a screenshot or picture.
If you’re submitting official transcripts, be sure that you specify “Make School” as the “Intended Recipient.”
ACT or SAT test scores are optional but you can request the testing agency to forward a score report to Make School using our college code numbers:
Alternatively, you can ask your counselor to include your test scores on your official high school transcript.
Advanced Placement and International Baccalaureate
Make School accepts transfer credit for Advanced Placement (AP) and International Baccalaureate (IB) courses. It is optional to submit these scores.
If you have taken any Advanced Placement courses, please request that College Board forward a score report to Make School using our college code: 7604.
If you have taken any IB courses, please contact the International Baccalaureate Organization (IBO) to request that your IB scores be sent to Make School.
Step 3: Complete Additional Requests
Because we know that we can’t make a full assessment of your qualifications based on academic transcripts alone, many applicants are required to provide additional documents and complete a couple more steps. You will need to check your application portal to determine if any of the following are required.
Letters of Recommendation
One or two letters of recommendation may be required so that we can learn more about you.
Admissions 1:1 Phone Call
This is a super relaxed 15 to 30-minute call. We highly recommend completing this step as early as possible! If none of our appointment times are available for you, please email firstname.lastname@example.org to make arrangements to speak with staff at a different time.
Depending on your existing programming experience, you may be asked to complete Spark. Spark is an interactive coding experience designed for applicants that are newer to coding. Spark is not a test! It is an opportunity for new coders to try programming in a relaxed environment with the support of TAs.
Step 4: Wait for the Admissions Decision
On average, it takes us about 2 to 3 weeks after receiving all your required materials to reach an admissions decision. If you are admitted and decide that you want to attend Make School, you’ll be asked to complete a list of enrollment steps.

Every college transcript from a regionally accredited institution, credential evaluation from an international school or program, and/or A.P. and I.B. test scores will be evaluated for Transfer Credit. Any credits awarded will be reflected on a Transfer Credit Evaluation (TCE) and released to the student if admitted. Make School is a private program and as such we do not guarantee credits will transfer to our program.
Please note, if you have any in-progress courses at a college or university, or if you will be taking A.P. or I.B. exams this Spring, you will be required to submit a final, official transcript with all final grades and scores listed. At that time, a new TCE will be completed for any updated credit. Furthermore, if you submit A.P. and/or I.B. test scores after receiving your original TCE, you will receive a secondary TCE for those scores.
